Dave Salisbury has provided an excellent overview of the under 9's cup final v Holsworthy and players for te season, well worth a read. Go to the Youth Fixtures and results section and click on the match v Holsworthy on the 26/04/09
I have added some pictures of first team in action against Probus. you can go straight to the page by clicking on this link
Up to date youth team fixtures and results to the site. Go to Youth > Fixtures & Results to see the full listings for the Under 12s, Under 11s, Under 9s and Under 8s.
I have added some photo's taken at the 1st team friendly against Appledore at the weekend, Click Here to go straight to the page.
Rumours have abounded for ages about Kilkhampton FC running youth teams, stealing our players and managers, etc. etc. The worst aspect about this is the unsettling effect it has on the players themselves. Here at Morwenstow we have facilities and a youth set-up that are second to none for our size, but we have not, and will not, achieve that at the expense of neighbouring clubs. Kilkhampton have their own challenges, and they need a youth section in order to acquire the funding they need to rebuild their clubhouse. In the spirit of friendly rivalry that has always existed been between the two clubs, we will help them in whatever way we can. As such, Archie Heard (Kilkhampton Chairman) and I (Dave Salisbury) met recently to agree a way forward.
The result is that Kilkhampton will be entering an Under-10's team in the East Cornwall League (7-a-side mini soccer). They will be able to use some of our Under-11's and some of our Under-9's if they want. We will be ensuring, as far as possible, that there are the minimum number of fixture clashes and, where there are, Kilkhampton will play on Saturday rather than Sunday - the East Cornwall League is officially a Saturday League anyway. Therefore, players who are eligible for both clubs can choose which one to play for or, more likely, play for both. An excellent solution that gives the kids as much football as possible (and isn't that what it's all about?) and shows that both clubs can work together for the benefit of everyone involved.
This coming season we will be running four teams:
Under-12's Managed and coached by Robert Pengilly (Gilly) and Gareth Gill, they will be moving up to play 11-a-side football for the first time. They will be in the North Devon League, as last year, but with the extra players needed it will be a real challenge to improve on last year's runners-up position.
Under-11's Managed and coached by Leon Munkley and Chris Mears, they will be moving up to play 9-a-side football, the transition between mini-soccer and the real game. Again, needing extra players is always a challenge for us in Morwenstow, but Leon and Chris are confident that the team can progress from last year's mid-table position. They again will be playing in the Kingsley League, although until the League meeting in August we can't be absolutely sure there will be enough teams to form a league at this age group.
Under-9's Managed and coached by Kevin Thomas and Simon Vivian, they will also be playing in the Kingsley League. Last season was their first playing match football, and we can expect much improvement this year when they start to play more as a team.
Under-7's Managed and coached by Dave Salisbury, the plan is to organise a number of friendly matches during the season. We are blessed with a high (for us) number of footballers at this age group, so the aim is to get them playing and learning as early as possible.
It is possible that the Under-9's may have a sparse fixture list. If that is the case we will probably enter an Under-8's team rather than run the Under-7's. Several of the Under-9's are young enough to play Under-8's too, so they would get more football, and the Under-7's could play a year above anyway. We will decide at the August meeting of the Kingsley League.
An update has been made to the Under 8's pages with forthcoming fixtures.
New reports have been added to the under 8's page from recent matches against Bude and Holsworthy.
The Under 11's and 15's pages have been updated with fixtures and results tables, there is also an update from the first outing of the season for the under 8's
The Under 11's page of the site has been updated with a report of their first game against SAS Saints and a picture of the squad.
As I am sure many of you already know Bilk had an unfortunate run in with Mayer's size 13's and got his nose all busted up last week. At least the reserves still managed to bag all 3 points up there at North Molton, so not an entirely bad weekend! But get well soon Bilk, the heart of the reserves defence needs your towering presence back as soon as possible.
Whilst I am here, here is a shameless plug for Bilk and Micker's stone walling website
Take a look at this link to see then new club merchandise model and the new products he is sporting!
See the Under 15's and Under 8's pages for updates on the first games of their seasons
